The Ohio Historical Society announced on March 13, 2008, that it expects to face a $2 million budget shortfall in the 2009 fiscal year as a result of the soft Ohio economy and declining state budget support.
The anticipated $2 million budget deficit was caused by increased expenses and falling revenues, including a recently announced 2-percent reduction in the organization’s annual $13.8 million state allocation for the 2008 and 2009 fiscal years.
On April 11, 2008, the Ohio Historical Society Board of Trustees passed a balanced budget of $20.9 million to support the Society’s activities in the 2009 fiscal year. The approved budget represents a 3-percent decrease from 2008.
