Federal Tax Incentives for Historic Preservation
Application Tips

  • The application instructions anticipate many common questions - look for the answers here.
  • Check the IRS Connection web site for IRS-related questions.
  • Learn about the Standards for Rehabilitation and find specific guidance in the Guidelines for Rehabilitating Historic Buildings.
  • Request Ohio Historic Preservation Office advice and guidance about the application process early in project planning. We can meet with you in our Columbus office to review concept plans and provide application guidance. Tax credit review staff are Judith Kitchen, and Mariangela Pfister.
  • Take photographs - inside and outside - BEFORE starting any work. Key the photographs to plans.
  • Apply for and receive National Park Service approval before starting work.
  • Submit two copies of all application materials to the Ohio Historic Preservation Office. We retain a file copy and send a complete copy to the National Park Service.
