Provenance: The Ohio Historical Society acquired the Asa M. Beaver Photograph Collection as a gift of the University of Oregon Library, Eugene, Oregon, in June 1975. Kathleen Mc Intyre processed the collection in November 1983.

Biographical sketch: Asa M. Beaver was born ca. 1857 and resided for at least seventeen years (1890-1907) near Pataskala, Licking County, Ohio, until he and his family moved to Oregon in October 1907. He was first married to Eliza Myrtie and after her death (ca. 1898) he married Nettie C. Beaver had two sons, Meredith and Aldred, and three daughters, Minnie, Nellie, and Mary.

Scope and content: The Asa M. Beaver Photograph Collection consists of sixty-six photographs: fifty-two on 2 1/2" x 3" carte-de-viste mounts, ten on 4 1/4" x 6 1/2" cabinet mounts, and four 2 1/4" x 3 1/3" tintypes (AP 160-163), and occupies one-quarter cubic foot. The photographs span the second half of the nineteenth century and are arranged into four groups: men, women, children, and group portraits.
A few of the photos are identified as relatives of the Beaver family and include the surnames Avery, Aldred, Beem, and Grable. The majority of the pictures were taken by Ohio photographers. The names of all the photographers appear in the appendix.
