The Ohio Historical Society offers the following archaeology-related services:

Artifact Identification

Archaeology staff are available to identify objects such as flint tools, ancient ceramics, stone tools, etc. We do not appraise collections for monetary value. For more information on artifact identification, contact Martha Otto 614.297.2641; fax: 614.297.2411; e-mail: motto@ohiohistory.org.

Research Requests

General questions regarding Ohio archaeology, history, or natural history, can be directed to the Research Services Department at 614.297.2510 or email: reference@ohiohistory.org

The collections of the Ohio Historical Society exist for the benefit of present and future generations. Therefore, the public shall be granted reasonable access, by appointment, to exhibited or stored collections, on a non-discriminatory basis for the purposes of research and other educational uses. These research procedures are designed to provide access to the collections, to coordinate research with other collections activities, to provide for an outcome for the research, and to safeguard the collections.
