Symposium: Ohio in Case Western Reserve University, the Western Reserve Historical Society and the Cleveland Museum of Art will sponsor a one-day symposium on Ohio and the Presidency. The symposium will take place the day of the Vice Presidential Debate on the Case campus. The symposium will feature three panels that will discuss the Ohio presidents (the "Ohio Eight") and the importance of Ohio in the 2004 election. Panelists will include leading scholars on Ohio’s presidents and five descendants of the Ohio Eight (Hayes, Garfield, McKinley, Taft and Harding). John Dean, former counsel to President Nixon, will speak on his recent biography of Warren Harding. The day will conclude with a panel discussion featuring Bob Bennett, the head of the Ohio GOP, and Jim Ruvolo, the Kerry/Edwards chair in Ohio. Brent Larkin of the Cleveland Plain Dealer and Mike Curtin, associate publisher of the Columbus Dispatch, will join the panel discussion.
